NBC’s popular show “Parenthood” is back this fall with a new season. We were pleased to discover that they were using a weighted blanket as a calming aid for Max, who is a character in the show having Asperger’s Syndrome.
Asperger’s Syndrome is a form of autism. In the show, Max shows how a child with the condition can often have normal speech and cognitive development; and he also depicts a hallmark of the disorder by having a very intense intellectual focus on one or two subjects. In Max’s case, he loves bugs!
The Autism Speaks website has a short video clip of this season premiere. Be sure to check it out. We are happy that the benefits of a weighted blanket were shared with such a wide audience.
